Charlie's Lunch Tsunami Relief

Letter From Shravan:

Greetings!

When Kofi Annan, Secretary General of United Nations toured the tsunami hit areas he said, "Where are all the people?"

When we first visited a small habitat by the seashore at Kesanapalli, the people asked the same haunting question, "Where are all the people?"

Though many organizations are doing relief work to the tsunami victims, most of them are going to the villages that have already been visited by some other organization, doling out the relief materials to the victims who had already been helped.

The other day Sirish and I, in the hot sun, visited this village. There were 120 families from the Visakapatnam district sharing 29 boats for fishing; 4 families to each boat. Since their nets were washed away in the tsunami wave, they are suffering. To add to their woes, a big oil company is bombing the shoreline, testing for oil deposits and not allowing them to fish. We found that they did not have anything to eat except some wheat bulgar with which they were making some soup to satiate their hunger. These people asked us for rice and other supplies.

We soon returned with 1200 Kgs of rice, 100 Kgs of dhal, 60Kgs of edible oil, 60 detergent cakes and 120 soaps. We held a small prayer meeting and I told them how much God loved them and shared with them about Charlie's Lunch.

After the meeting, we gave out more supplies to the heads of each fishing boat to distribute to the familes.

These people have asked us for nets. If they have nets they can make money and begin to live on their own. I thank you so much for your love of these victims. I have included pictures of this occasion.

Blessings,

Shravan Kumar
